Earlier on tonight at Athens’ Constitution Square thousands of Greeks defying an unprecedented rain, made their voice heard by saying: We want to remain in Europe. John Faraclas with the Athenian All About Shipping team was there:
Speeches were delivered and the most powerful one come from the mayor of Athens George Kaminis who called the proposed referendum Shameful! That was a slap in the face for prime minister Tsipras who proposed a snap referendum as a last ditch to hand on in power and continue his amateurish governance in destroying Greece. Present was also the mayor of Thessaloniki Yannis Boutaris who has called the pubic to vote YES and also mentioned that the referendum divides, splits the Greek people!

Amongst these thousands of YES demonstrators we spotted shipbrokers, shipowners, shipmanagers, marine consultants, seafarers, yacht race champions, maritime lawyers, shipfinance bankers, making the shipping industry’s presence felt; needless to mention that the late father of the Mayor of Athens managed one of the biggest greek shipping offices in New York!
After Capital Controls imposed by the Greek Government depriving the dignity of Greek people, one should now expect Nemesis to strike by introducing Capital Punishment… Watch this space!
