Maintenance completed, locks back in service

Maintenance work at the Big North Lock Chamber at Kiel-Holtenau has been completed, and both big locks are now back in service.

Gatun Locks lane outage for repairs
August 05, 2015, Panama, Panama Canal
Beginning at 0001 hours until 1200 hours on Friday, August 7, 2015, (12 hours), the WEST lane of Gatun Locks will be out of service in order to perform emergency repairs on Miter Gates 15 and 23, and maintenance work on the conductor slots and valves. This outage is required to ensure a safe lockage operation for our customers.
As a result, and in accordance with the rules governing the Transit Reservation System, Condition 1.a. will be in effect on Friday, August 7, 2015.
The JIT transit slots, as well as the booking slot available through the Auction Process, and the slots available for regular vessels less than 300 feet in LOA, will continue to be offered during this period.
