Annual Salary Survey 2015 released
After months of collecting, checking and analysing thousands of lines of data, the 2015
Maritime HR Association Salary Survey was officially released to members on 26 October.
With an increase of members and the introduction of new job codes we received a 122%
increase of data from 2014, which has resulted in a staggering rise in reported information
for the ninth edition. Over the last year, membership of the Maritime HR Association has
increased to a total of 95 and has been able to report new countries, regions and job families
to produce the biggest Maritime Salary Survey to date by far.
The highlights for this year’s report include:
- A breakdown of Europe, dividing it by Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Europe for a more detailed report across the region;
- the introduction of the Middle East region including 10 reporting countries;
- two additional countries were able to be reported individually; and
- four new corporate job families including IT, HR, finance and research/business development.
The demand for this year’s survey in the run up to its distribution has been at an all-time high
and demonstrates the need for such salary data in the maritime industry. While growing the
regions reported, the Association has also seen an increase in the variety of maritime
organisations needing access to shore based salary data. To meet the high demand from
different areas of the industry the Maritime HR Association looks to develop specific job
families for these more niche markets in following surveys.

The Maritime HR Association is a membership body established in 2005 by eight founding shipping companies.
The membership has grown substantially since this time, with over 90 shipowners, shipmanagers, shipbrokers,
commodities, bunkers, oil majors and liner companies worldwide.
It was set up to meet the growing demand from shipping HR professionals for accurate benchmarking data.
The Association therefore has two main goals:
- Provide robust and reliable compensation & benefits benchmarking data for global shipping jobs;
- Share ideas and experience with regards to HR policies and best practice.
To meet these goals, we work alongside the members to benchmark global shore-based staff salaries and
bonuses and provide regular information exchanges and surveys on benefits and HR policies and practice.
All of our activities are carried out within the bounds of anti-trust regulations.
