Bulker sellers pre-empt the Daiichi effectLast week, the market was digesting news of the bankruptcy filing of Japan’s fifth-largest shipping group, Daiichi Chuo Kisen, which has requested court protection from its creditors in Japan and the United States while it prepares a restructuring plan. The Tokyo-listed operator is comparable in scale to Sanko Steamship when the latter failed in 2012.
