4.1.1July 2016 – Independent global satellite communications provider NSSLGlobal and specialist Norwegian satcom resellerFleetCom AS have formed a strategic alliance that will see FleetCom selling NSSLGlobal’s full range of maritime VSAT solutionsin Norway, alongside third party solutions such as Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress and Fleet One.

Ingar Kastum, Chairman, FleetCom AS said: “With best of breed technology, 24/7 support offices across Norway, the UK, Germany, Denmark, Poland, South Africa, the US and Singapore, and a fully owned and controlled VSAT network covering all of the world’s major commercial shipping routes, offshore oil rigs and fishing domains, NSSLGlobal is the perfect partner for FleetCom AS and a compelling connectivity solution for Norwegian maritime companies.”

NSSLGlobal’s fully-owned and controlled global VSAT network, including six teleports, 23 beams and 15 satellites, will provide Norwegian maritime customers with access to truly world-class coverage and a range of specialist solutions. These include satellite-based vessel-monitoring systems (VMS) to help fishing vessels meet electronic recording and reporting system (ERS) regulatory compliance required by the EU for fisheries control; Cruise Control (CC) LITE an entry-level email management solution designed for cost-conscious small-regional and inter-regional vessels with basic connectivity requirements; and IP@SEANSSLGlobal’s dedicated maritime VSAT service (DVBS2-RCS2) offering fixed monthly fees and speeds of up to 40 Mbit/s to help guarantee vessels’ voice and data connectivity.

Norway has been a major player in maritime and shipping for more than 150 years. Despite being a small country which represents less than a thousandth of the world’s population, Norway’s offshore fleet is the second largest in the world. At the end of 2015 the Norwegian Merchant fleet had 1, 373 vessels and a gross tonnage of 15.7 million*.

“This exciting partnership gifts Norwegian maritime customers the many benefits of FleetCom’s local market expertise, sales support and service, together with the global reach, technical support and off-the-shelf or bespoke packages available through NSSLGlobal, ” said Scott McBride, Group Distribution Sales Director, NSSLGlobal. “VSAT is widely appreciated as an efficiency driver and source of cost savings for maritime companies. Through the partnership with FleetCom we’re creating new opportunities for Norwegian customers to control costs while expanding and contracting the amount of data used on-board. This is an appealing proposition to shipping companies needing to extend their corporate IT networks to their ships and better support crew welfare.”
