Duisport logo“When you are in Duisburg, you are in Europe”Duisburg, 31 October 2016 – The Port of Duisburg (duisport) continues to expand its economic and strategic relations with China. “When you are in Duisburg, you are in Europe. Our Chinese partners know that we are Europe’s major domestic hub for goods handling,” says duisport Chief Executive Officer Erich Staake. Together with North-Rhine Westphalia Transportation Minister Michael Groschek, Staake will also join Federal Industry Minister Sigmar Gabriel on his visit to China from 2 – 6 November.

Today, approximately 20 trains a week already run between the Port of Duisburg and various destinations in China.
Numerous logistics centers are currently being established along this new trading route, which runs through the less developed parts of western China to the commercial centers of Chongqing and Chengdu. One of the largest of these centers, which is located in Urumqi in north-west China, already cooperates with duisport.

During his visit in China, duisport CEO Staake will conclude cooperation agreements with the major players in the Chengdu commercial metropolis. Staake: “In this way, we help our customers, namely the large logistics companies, to continue to expand their trade with China.”
