Port raises alert level as Tropical Low approaches

Port Hedland is at Cyclone Response alert level Stage 2 (Prepare) as the Tropical Low 14U is situated just NNW of Kununurra and forecast to move off the west Kimberley coast before tracking in a WSW direction over water, roughly parallel to Pilbara coast, early on Friday (27 January).Harbour Master, Port Terminal Operators, Port users and Pilots. Operational plans, sailing drafts, tidal requirements and intentions will be discussed and evaluated against possible response scenarios.The system is expected to form into a tropical cyclone late pm on Thursday (26 January) and to be located about 120 NM off the Port of Port Hedland by late pm on 27 January. The port is expected to be impacted by gale force winds from late pm Friday to midday Saturday 28 January.Based on current forecasts, it is expected that the port will be ‘cleared’ of shipping during daylight hours on Friday, 27 January.
