Capt. Antonio M. Padrón, IMO Maritime Ambassador, participated in the KOREA SPAIN OCEAN FORUM 2017, acting as Chairman of the expert panel on “Cooperation in Maritime and Fisheries Matters”
The event, chaired by Hon. Dr. Chang Ho Yang, President of KOREA MARITIME INSTITUTE (KMI), was held in facilities of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPG), counting with an important group of assistants representing practically all the Sectors related with the maritime industry in the Canary Islands.
The KOREA SPAIN OCEAN FORUM is organized periodically with the aim of establishing and expanding bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the area of maritime, fisheries, aquaculture and economic affairs, developing an agenda of future research and cooperation projects.

Since 2013, KOREA MARITIME INSTITUTE (KMI) and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) are making efforts to implement a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations, developing cooperation and research projects and establishing a platform to discuss on current issues on maritime and fishing matters.
The KMI, founded by the Korean Government, is established under the Korean Prime Minister’s office. Its research work include fisheries, aquaculture, maritime transport, ports, marine policy and regulations in these areas.
The Spanish Branch of the KMI is in charge of the Center for Maritime Research and Cooperation Korea-Spain (CEIMARPE) which, with its main offices in the ULPG, concentrates its activities of investigation and cooperation to the development of the EU and Africa in the maritime and fishing sectors.
