Canoe Race

A canoe race will take place along eastern coast of Hong Kong Island on 3 December 2017 (Sunday) during the period from 0900 hours to 1500 hours. About 100 canoes are expected to participate in the race.

The race will start from Causeway Bay in Victoria Harbour, then follow a route passing Chai Wan, Cape D’aguilar to Stanley Bay and finish at St. Stephen Beach.

Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution, giving practical consideration to the contestants. Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 is mandatory.

In case of inclement weather, the race will be postponed to the fallback date of Sunday, 10 December 2017.

Implementation of Merchant Shipping (Limitation of Shipowners Liability) Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 2) Order 2017

The Merchant Shipping (Limitation of Shipowners Liability) Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 2) Order 2017 (‘the Amendment Order’) was published in the Gazette on 6 October 2017. The legislative amendments serve to give effect to the latest revision in limits of liability for maritime incidents pursuant to the 1996 Protocol to the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976. The revised liability limits to be incorporated into relevant Article 6 of Schedule 2 to the Merchant Shipping (Limitation of Shipowners Liability) Ordinance (Cap. 434) shall come into operation on 4 December 2017.

Upon the commencement of the relevant legal provisions, shipowners will be subjected to higher liability limits for claims for loss of life or personal injury and other claims such as claims for property damage.

Cruise ship schedule – December 2017 & January 2018

Mariners are advised of cruise vessels anchoring north of Phillip Island. Tender vessels will transport passengers to and from the cruise vessels and Rhyl Pier between 12:00 and 23:00 on the days listed below:
Seabourn Encore – Wednesday, 6 December 2017
Golden Princess – Wednesday, 20 December 2017
Seabourn Encore – Tuesday, 23 January 2018An exclusion zone of 100 meters will be in place around cruise vessels while in Western Port. Unauthorised entry into this zone is strictly prohibited. The exclusion zone will be monitored by a security vessel.Mariners are also prohibited from entering the Parks Victoria mandated set aside area during the times nominated above and are advised to navigate with caution within the vicinity of the cruise ship and tender activity.
