The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost since four points yesterday, 44 since last week and now stands at 1,084 points – from 1,125. The Geopolitics are so perplexed – given also the amassed global debt for which we have warned long ago in various multi-theme reporting. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:
The Capers volatility and the Panamaxes rise keep the momentum still alive as, if the BDI falls below the 1,000-point threshold things could be nasty for the 90 centum of tramp shipping – listed or unlisted. We are now 1,163 points below the December 2013 closing of 2,247 points!
The Capers’ BCI lost 55 points today and overall 182 – from last week’s 1,790 and now reads 1,608 points. CAUTION!
The Panamaxes BPI was up 22 points now reading 1,273 – up 23 since last Friday’s 1,250 points; not bad…
The Supras were up five with the BSI standing at 83 which is also a dozen points plus since last week’s 825 points…
Not so rosy for the Handies’ BHSI stuck at 515 since yesterday and down 11 since last week’s 526 points.
All in all per the title of today’s recap, a low Dry market and we all await the manna from … China when the Dog barks after the Chinese New Year. We reiterate that shipping and particularly the Dry markets become shipping for the very very few!
The Wets once again with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 649 – plus seven and 630 – minus eight respectively. On a weekly basis, the Dirties were up six – from 643 and the Cleans up 11 – from 619…
The WTI as these lines are being written stands at US$ 61.68; last week it stood at US$ 59.20… CAUTION.-
The Geopolitical front remains blur and we will revert later on with a full account for the day and week; The MIGRANTS, The Syrian / Iraqi saga, the Turkish stubbornness in trying to sink Peace’s boat… The Greek continuous mess, the coming Balkans inferno; The BREXIT issues coming from now on to the fore; the American election long running saga and an announcement was by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged Russian meddling…
