What a “finale” that was for the BDI as Posidonia 2018 comes to an end! Geopolitics to face a crucial week ahead. John Faraclas’ brief Markets and Geopolitics recap:

The BDI although lost four points earlier on today – 1,391,  it gained 253 since last Friday the 1st of June when it stood at 1,156! A reason to celebrate!

All Dry indices where on a plus mode!

The major upwards push come from the volatile Capers which lost 69 points since yesterday – now at 2,151, but gained 549 since last week’s closing when the BCI stood at 1,602 points!

The Panamaxes were up 74 points with the BPI reading 1,418 and on a weekly basis our most favourable size gained 229 points – from 1,192 last week…

Minor gains but gains for the Supras; the BSI was up three points at 1,075 – on a weekly basis the BSI was up 14 points – from 1,061…

The Handies’ BHSI  gained one point – now reading 584; on a weekly basis though it lost three points – from 587…

So all in all a very promising but strange market – given the figures and the sentiment is that the operators will wipe-out within the next three to five years the small sized shipowners… Just wait and see…

The Wets were also down both on a daily as well as on a weekly basis; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 731 – minus four and 535 – minus three points respectively. The weekly results were also on a falling mode; the BDTI lost 23 points – down from 754 and the BCTI lost 20 – down from 555 points respectively…

The WTI stood at US$ 68.20 up from last week’s US$ 67… CAUTION as the minor ups and downs might cause other unwanted issues.

Posidonia 2018 come to an end and pleased to say that we managed to have a final but comprehensive walk around until all four Halls were closed. Good to see the success and progress of our industry and hope that with ultra-logic we can save the day for all in all sectors and for all intents and purposes.

Besides all event and conferences the major two event were the Press Conference of the UGS – Union of Greek Shipowners with its president Theodore El. Veniamis on a great day giving the appropriate replies to all ten questions! Good to see for the first time in a Press Conference a minister from Greece’s Shipping Ministry; hope he got the message!

The other event, a nearly all day one, on the YES TO SHIPPING was more than a success! Many congratulations to its organisers and their down to earth continuous zeal, as well as to its sponsors and those present from all of Greek’s shipping stakeholders and the young generation. We hope that with a bit of meticulousness the results will be great. Let us all support this cause as well as all the causes focusing on the job creation for the benefit of Greece’s shipping. We need as mentioned from our part a Training Ship; end of the story!

I was more than privileged to be given a lift back by Themis Vokos and discuss for 65 minutes the entire Posidonia success story! what a treat that was!

Geopolitically things will come to the fore and extension of many issues are on the cards;  The USA – North Korean meeting in Singapore and the name-game saga on fYRoM will make headlines as well as tsunamis…

Have a nice evening and weekend, a safe journey back to all those who participated in any way at Posidonia 2018 and be on guard from any eventuality emanating from pirates, Terrorists and Criminals of any kind wherever you are on Planet Ocean.
