The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 14 points earlier on today as all indices were on the rise – minimal rise but rising. Geopolitics though are so enigmatic and perplexed that ultra-caution should be observed; John Faraclas’ midweek brief recap:
The Capes’ BCI was up 23 points and now reads 2,091 points; steady above the 2,000 point mark!
The Panamaxes BPI was up 14 points and now reads 1,488 – a whisker away from the 1,500 threshold…
Supras and Handies managed to clinch four and three points – the BSI at 1,088 and the BHSI at 591 respectively!
So all in all a promising market but keep a small basket! Trade Wars and Newbuildings plus the pattern of Shipping will completely change shipping’s picture! Shipping is becoming shipping for the very very very few!
The Wets once again with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 751 and 522 – that’s plus five and minus three points respectively…
The WTI as these lines are being written stands at US$ 66.30…
The Geopolitics as mentioned in the preamble are more than perplexed and enigmatic:
The MIGRANTS still by far the most crucial of all issues and the latest incident with the “Aquarius” carrying 629 migrants creating messy adverse encounters with Malta, Italy and France make the news headlines all over Planet Ocean! The vessel is now heading for Valencia in Spain…
The Balkans are in another turmoil given what really happens with the name of fYRoM… Greece and fYRom still at loggerheads… Be on guard…
Turkey might turn beyond its frontiers so Erdogan remains in power, unless…
Greece, Cyprus and all nations in the Eastern Med basin are closely watching the Turkish developments given also the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections there…
BREXIT still goes strong…
At the other side of the Atlantic president Trump feels content with the North Korean deal; time will tell…
That’s all for tonight; have a nice evening and continue to be on guard for any eventuality emanating from Pirates, Terrorists and Criminals of any kind looming in the background wherever you are on Planet Ocean.
