Once again the Capes managed to keep the BDI (Baltic Dry Index) afloat reviving the hopes of the industry, but once again: one size doesn’t make a market, so caution for all as Geopolitics are still very perplexed and we wonder what next. John Faraclas’ brief market:
The BDI gained 29 points since last Friday the 13th of July and as the title implies, holds well…
The Capes’ BCI was up 82 points at now stands at 3,238… we shall see for how long this rally will continue…
The Panamaxes clinched two point and the BPI now reads 1,529 points…
Up three for the Supras’ BSI now at 998 and let’s hope it surpasses the 1,000 point threshold!
No change for the Handies’ BHSI now stagnant at 559 points.
So all in all an upwards heading Dry Market but as said one size doesn’t create a Market as well as the Tariffs and Geopolitics might turn the trade upside down… For the first time after a very long time we see the gap being reduced to 552 points from the end of December 2013 when the BDI stood at 2,247 points until today!
The Wets once again with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 744 – plus six and 499 – down one respectively. Still low particularly the Cleans!
The WTI fell; that’s good news as at US$68.02 begins to give a breathing space – need to see US$ 49.99 to have the poor inhabitants of this Planet smile and be better off!
The Geopolitics, as numerous times have lately written, proved how perplexed they are:
More Migrants issues surface…
The Middle East might ignite worse than ever before… that includes Syria, Iraq, Iran, Israel and the entire Arabian Peninsula…
Turkey might become once again the sick man of Europe and the Middle East…with whatever this entails. CAUTION on all fronts…
Greece follows suite with all these 300 MPs who can’t see beyond their nose… Internal and external affairs are more than critical…
Italy in financial tatters…
France struggles …
Germany divided; Mrs. Merkel has lost for ever her political charm!
What a weekend and what a beginning of a week that was for British politics; to BREXIT or not to BREXIT? Or else – but how… Who’s at fault? The UK or the EU? President Trump’s odd visit and his statements with counter statements from the British side… Who said this or that… childish issues in the era of internet…? All sides loose from this melee… Add his visit in his Motherland, that’s Scotland… Demos et al where monumental… All depends in his golf PAT… And what about the summit today with his Russian counterpart in Helsinki… What’s up there…? I guess we are heading to major developments, so be on guard…. It can’t be tactics unless there is going to be an alliance between the USA and Russia versus China… Could be… Back in the USA, the justice there is after Russians who are suspected for interfering to the 2016 elections; add also a 29 years old Russian woman charged today in the USA for conspiracy to act as a Russian government agent while infiltrating political groups and see what do you make it…
One thing come out: Israel must feel great as both will continue to protect the Jewish State…
Caution for Nicaragua; things might get sour… Already mess builds up unnecessary hate among its citizens and the military / security forces…
Elsewhere France had violent celebrations after winning the World Cup in Moscow; a 4-2 against Croatia sealed French superiority. All things being equal it was president Macron’s Day and then Croatian’s President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic had the glimpse of glory; fairs fair! That kiss eh! Ah! And the missing umbrellas… Or was it for the all-wet-look? What a palaver… England did well even getting the fourth place after losing 2-0 to Belgium; I can assure you this English team will turn everything upside down… watch this space!
Tennis at the Wimbledon extravaganza: Djokovic glorious win over the up and coming South African Kevin Andersen was a decisive one! Angelique Kerber did well against Serena Williams; bravo!
That’s all for tonight, have a nice evening and continue to be on guard from dangers emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals of any kind AND Politicians… wherever you are on Planet Ocean. We are living in interesting times…
