A fire-fighting operation is underway after a fire was reported onboard a general cargo vessel in the Kartal Anchorage area, near the Tuzla Shipyard region.
According to the initial reports, the vessel’s crew have evacuated safely. The cause of the fire is unkown.

Launch of “eSeaGo” Mobile Application

From 2 January 2019, a new mobile application “eSeaGo” developed by Marine Department (MD) is available for the public to download free of charge.
The “eSeaGo” app provides a simple and convenient solution for displaying chart information for the Hong Kong waters. Through the use of “eSeaGo” app, users can download chart information provided by the Hydrographic Office of MD and display it in offline mode without Internet connection. When “eSeaGo” app incorporates with mobile device’s positioning function, it will assist sailing in Hong Kong Waters.
The “eSeaGo” app provides contents and information in raster format which should not be used as a substitute for paper charts or electronic navigational charts. The “eSeaGo” app is not designed to be used for navigational purposes or as a substitute for any navigational equipment that is required under applicable regulations or laws.

Channel closed after grounding

The Lower Mississippi River Navigation Channel has been closed after a vessel ran aground today (4 January) at Cubit’s Gap (MM 3.5 AHOP). Tugs are en route.
