The BDI@634; what a week that was… in Geopolitics too!
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) ended up earlier on today at 634 points – plus four since yesterday and down five since last Friday the 15th of February 2019 when it stood at 639 points! Geopolitics messy as ever; John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recaps:
The Capes’ BCI continue its fee-fall losing 25 points and now reading 545; on a weekly basis same was down a triple-digit 182 points – down from 727 points last week… CAUTION…
The Panamaxes’ BPI was up nine points and now standing at 666 – what a number eh! On a weekly basis same was up 42 points – from 624.
The Supras’ “rally” continued with the BSI now standing at 707 (…a Boeing 707…); on a weekly basis the BSI was up 147 points keeping the entire dry market “buoyant” – from 560…
The Handies’ BHSI was up six point at 359 and on a weekly basis 44 points made the difference in feeling a bit safe – up from 315 last week.
What a peculiar situation in the Dry Market; it could have been far worse. We shall see what the next fortnight brings.
The Wets on a falling mode; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 828 – minus three and 594 – minus 11 (the 600 point threshold being lost). On a weekly basis the Dirties were up 22 points – from 806 and the Cleans were down 19 – from 613 points respectively. A bit of a worrying Wet Market. Again let’s wait to see what happens in the next two weeks.
The WTI was slightly up to US$ 57.02 and on a weekly basis same was up US$ 1.43 – from US$ 55.59!
Dangerous rise in our humble view; ultra-caution should be observed.
The Container trade remains, at best, sluggish… Let’s see how the USA-China issues work out…
The Geopolitics have created an unprecedented situation and wonder what is yet to come!
The MIGRANTS, unfortunately maintain the top position substance-wise. All over Planet Ocean things are getting worse and that will have tremendous repercussions!
No change at all in the faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses down to the Horn of Africa whilst its two epicentres remain more than active – the Balkans and the East Med’s periphery of a 1,500 miles radius. CAUTION!
Syria and Iraq await as well as the entire world ISIS’ complete defeat and the fact that the USA if or better say leave 200 military personnel will remain speaks of itself what is still the feeling there. You never ever know. Still the daily papers and most of the electronic ones tell us of the return of jihadist terrorists…
Turkey stirs-up the entire region with too many demands. CAUTION… as the Turks always survived on political blackmail… Just recently its president Erdogan met Greece’s PM Tsipras but still the Turkish Air Force continues to violate Greece’s AND Europe’s Airspace… Wonder what Mrs. Merkel heading the EU and NATO has to say!
The European Union remains in a mess and if you add the BREXIT saga it’s an incalculable mess. Add Italy’s state of affairs and that of France and see what you get. Spain stuck with the forthcoming elections… The Irish have to sort out the frontier with Northern Ireland given the BREXIT turmoil… Ms. May continues to fight on…
At the other side of the Atlantic president Trump negotiates with the Chinese to strike a deal on Tariffs and ease the tension. We shall see…
In South America the Venezuelan mess continues! CAUTION. The Maduro regime considers the aid as a Trojan Horse…
India and Pakistan still at loggerheads with Kashmir… The latest events are alarming! CAUTION.
In Africa the Nigerian elections as and when they happen will be very crucial! In Sudan too thing might turn nasty… a safeguard of the situ is needed!
On another note and tone Capital Link’s 10th Annual Greek Shipping Forum under the main theme Opportunities & Challenges was a success; a day also to honour Paris Dragnis! Will revert with a full write-up!
More news before midnight; until then remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorist, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
