The BDI@1,041; …slow steaming or loss of steam?
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) remained close to last Friday’s levels gaining only one point. Geopolitics continue to be perplexed and messy. John Faraclas’ daily recap:
The Capes’ BCI was up seven points at 1,470…
The Panamaxes’ BPI gained only one and now stands at 1,256…
The Supras lost two points with the BSI down to 778…
The Handies’ BHSI managed to clinch a point and “save” the day now at 386… A low level rally enfolds and let’s hope soon to see the Handies back to 400 plus points…
So, all in all a grounded dry market with the BDI being 1,206 points apart from that as of the end of Dec 2013 when the BDI stood at 2,247 points. This is the harsh reality!
The Wets with a mixed view; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 678 and 512 points being minus and plus five respectively…
The WTI stood at US$ 63.01 following alarming consequences from possible developments in the greater Middle East region, particularly surrounding Iran and the USA following warnings from president Trump. These 25 cents plus from last Friday’s closing (US$62.76) look dangerous as we might see US$ 65 plus if things deteriorate and hostilities begin; CAUTION!
The Geopolitics, particularly with the above paras’ warning is almost certain to create havoc in the markets.
