The BDI@1,041; …slow steaming or loss of steam?

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) remained close to last Friday’s levels gaining only one point. Geopolitics continue to be perplexed and messy. John Faraclas’ daily recap:

The Capes’ BCI was up seven points at 1,470…

The Panamaxes’ BPI gained only one and now stands at 1,256…

The Supras lost two points with the BSI down to 778…

The Handies’ BHSI managed to clinch a point and “save” the day now at 386… A low level rally enfolds and let’s hope soon to see the Handies back to 400 plus points…

So, all in all a grounded dry market with the BDI being 1,206 points apart from that as of the end of Dec 2013 when the BDI stood at 2,247 points. This is the harsh reality!

The Wets with a mixed view; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 678 and 512 points being minus and plus five respectively…

The WTI stood at US$ 63.01 following alarming consequences from possible developments in the greater Middle East region, particularly surrounding Iran and the USA following warnings from president Trump. These 25 cents plus from last Friday’s closing (US$62.76) look dangerous as we might see US$ 65 plus if things deteriorate and hostilities begin; CAUTION!

The Geopolitics, particularly with the above paras’ warning is almost certain to create havoc in the markets.

MIGRANTS still on top of all issues put together despite the main media trying to play it down; wrong!

TFLFGTA&FTCTTHOA …err The Faulty Line from Gib to Afghanistan & From the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa with the triple focal points Balkans, East Med/Black Sea and wider Middle East – lets add Northern Africa as Libya enters yet another mess, might produce further destabilization…

Turkey’s behaviour is despicable; bullying all, repeat all nations bordering this bankrupt country – lacking democracy too, and being the champion of blackmail and provocation as well as an untrusted NATO ally, needless to say that due to all this behaviour, Erdogan Turks will never ever make it to the European Union…

Possible hostilities in the East Med where Turkey plays a dangerous game bullying Cyprus, a European Union member state as well as Greece in the Aegean might make the world go round! CAUTION!

Greece next door is still in limbo with all political parties using populism at the expense of the Greek people; it could backfire! The forthcoming European and Municipal elections this Sunday will be a test for the “lefty” loony SYRIZA government… and will trigger developments… CAUTION!

Austria still in limbo following the political earthquake…with all Far Right ministers of the Freedom Party (FPÖ) resigning, throwing the government into chaos… Did I hear you say “Scandal”?

BREXIT might become messy for all… Let’s see the result this Thursday on the European Election… Imagine an abrupt and strange BREXIT… The damage will be for all; its like a war; war is good even for the warring ones…

The European Union MUST get its act together…

Huawei makes waves… Be on guard with this issue…

The Sea-level rise might cause soon, not just in 25 or 50 or 100 years after problems. The problem should be tackled NOW – and now means something without duration! I am sure you get the message!

Let’s see what Modi does for India and caution for Assam…

All is set for the WISTA-Med Conference in Costa Navarino, Peloponnese, Greece. Let’s see what this exceptional conference delivers at the Astronomy Hall! Titled “Turbulence or Fair winds in the Med” the gathering and themes to be delivered and discussed/debated is of paramount importance not only for WISTA’s but for all in the Shipping Industry!

On another tone and note the 2018 EFKRANTI Awards took place at the Aekaterini Laskarides Foundation Building in Marina Zeas in Piraeus, Greece, with interesting winners – some being very close friends and supporters of www.allaboutshipping.co.uk! Congratulations to all as well as to those who conceived the idea of these awards! Will revert when we have the full list.

Lastly and following last year’s reporting from Spetses (17 May 2018), in our recent trip to the Island of Spetses we referred live on the Sotirios Anargyros’ Mansion; here is the video which we hope to alert all and save same:
