Construction of outfalls at former Kai Tak Runway

For approximately 6 months, marine works involving construction of three outfalls [are being] carried out in the following works areas at the former Kai Tak Runway.
WORKS AREA 1
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 18.878’N / 114 deg. 12.171’E
(B) 22 deg. 18.841’N / 114 deg. 12.134’E
(C) 22 deg. 18.879’N / 114 deg. 12.092’E
(D) 22 deg. 18.916’N / 114 deg. 12.129’E
WORKS AREA 2
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (E) to (H) and the adjacent shoreline:
(E) 22 deg. 18.683’N / 114 deg. 12.389’E
(F) 22 deg. 18.646’N / 114 deg. 12.352’E
(G) 22 deg. 18.725’N / 114 deg. 12.265’E
(H) 22 deg. 18.762’N / 114 deg. 12.303’E
The works will be carried out by one dumb lighter. Two tugboats will provide assistance.
A working area of approximately 20 metres around the lighter will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the lighter.
The hours of work will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. Vessels employed for the works will not stay in the works areas outside the hours of work.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Continuous operation of temporary wind monitoring station

A temporary wind monitoring station which has been established southwest of Lamma Island for collecting wind data will continue to operate for a period of approximately one year.
The station is a large offshore platform. The particulars of the station and its aids to navigation are as follows:-

– Elevation of the main platform: 11 metres above mean sea level
– Supporting Trunk: Yellow
– Meteorological Mast: Orange and white stripes

– Light: Mo (U) 15s 13M
– Foghorn: Mo (U) 15s
– Radar Reflector: Fitted

Railway workers’ strike

Workers at Aurizon Railways went out on strike yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 28 May) for the next 48 hours after pay talks between the company and unions hit a road block. This is expected to cause further delays in coal arrivals at ports in North Queensland.
This second industrial action announced this year affects Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Hughenden, Townsville, Mackay, Longreach, Emerald, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Maryborough and Acacia Ridge (Brisbane). It follows week-long overtime bans imposed by the unions.

Cable laying in East Johor Strait

The working period for cable laying work in the East Johor Strait has been extended. The work is now being carried out from today (29 May) until to 28 November.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine Notice No.048 of 2019, the work is being conducted 24 hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – in the vicinity of the entrance of Sungei Sembawang, within the working area bounded by the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
1) 01 deg. 28·585’N / 103 deg. 48·148’E
2) 01 deg. 28·696’N / 103 deg. 48·662’E
3) 01 deg. 28·208’N / 103 deg. 48·573’E
4) 01 deg. 28·141’N / 103 deg. 48·182’E
The works will involve soil investigation, dredging and cable laying works. The cable laying works will be carried out by a Cable Laying Barge (CLB). The CLB will be moored on pre-installed anchor points within the working area. Denman Shoal Buoy and Senoko “A” Buoy will be temporary removed during the working period.
A safety boat will be deployed to warn other craft in the vicinity of the working area.
Craft involved in the works exhibit the appropriate local and international day and night signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
a) Keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
b) Maintain a proper lookout;
c) Proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 21 (Sembawang Control);
and
e) Communicate with Sembawang Control on VHF Channel 21 for assistance, if required.
