The BDI@1,080: the fall continues… amid geopolitical uncertainty
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) fell 25 points losing the 1,100 points threshold. The Geopolitical uncertainty might create chaos which eventually might affect shipping in its entirety. John Faraclas’ brief midweek recap:
The Capes’ BCI lost 52 points and now reads 1746 – it also lost the 1,800 point threshold!
The Panamaxes’ fall continued too with the BPI now at 1,149 points – minus 17!
Just two points down for the Supras and the BSI reading 712!
The Handies’ BHSI was the only type in the dry sector with “gains”. With two points plus same now reads 416 points.
Will the BDI go below the 1,000 point mark? As things stand now, it might – we hope not… Never forget that we need to see at least the end of December 2013 level, the 2,247 points; we are now 1,142 points apart!!!
Mixed feelings for the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) now stand at 654 – plus nine and 507 – minus ten points respectively!
The WTI fell down to US$ 51.13 amid an unexpected rise in the oil reserves in the USA! Watch this space!
The Geopolitics, as stressed yesterday, might produce further mess all over Planet Ocean… Ensure you have a Plan C to face the coming mess… You have been warned!
Migrants; the faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses down to the Horn of Africa with its four points of messy regions: Catalonia, The Balkans, The entire East Med and Middle East, Iran – mind the Straits of Hormuz; needless to say all 13 (thirteen) dire straits; Turkish provocative actions, the Greek elections within a month…; Europe in political and financial tatters including an inconclusive or whatever situ BREXIT ends up with, the Global Financial mess with the US$ 250 trillion debt; a possible strengthening of the Euro…; The Trump administration’s tariffs, the Far Eastern issues – North Korea and South China Sea, then the African mess… and …and the problems never end so expect the Armageddon to rule the waves as all the above will greatly affect the entire shipping industry and its environment – both physical as well as business one!
Tomorrow the much awaited Newsfront / Naftiliaki Shortsea Shipping Days 2019 event under the title: Shortsea: Challenges ahead, takes place at the Yacht Club of Greece. A full progamme with the welcome and keynote speeches plus five sessions will keep us busy!
On another tone and note at the end of this summer (26th of September) a charitable event takes place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Athens’ Riviera to boost C+I Greece – Creative Innovative Greece, a non-profit organisation.
