The BDI@1,816 makes waves… but Geopolitical CAUTION is advised… whilst WISTA-UK celebrates its 45th Anniversary
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) reach new heights with the Panamaxes and Capes performing well despite international tension and rise of the WTI… WISTA’s UK 45th Anniversary more than touching but also spectacular. John Faraclas’ brief daily recap:
The Capes were up 55 points and the BCI now stands at 3,416 points.
The Panamaxes’ BPI was up 90 points and now stands at 1,881 a figure “reflecting” market reality!
A good double digit rise for the Supras’ BSI now at 860 – up 15!
Another five good points for the Handies’ BHSI now reading 468…
The gap between today and that as of the end of Dec 2013 is been narrowed to 431 points (2,24 – 1,816); excellent but don’t count your eggs before same are hatched !!!
The Wets falling; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 633 – minus seven and 524 – minus five points respectively.
The WTI fell slightly to US$ 60.20 from US$ 60.43… CAUTION as whatever above the US$60.00 is hell for all…
The Geopolitical situation remains, as we have numerous classified same: ultra-perplexed:
Still on top the MIGRANTS, the most shameful issues of our 2019 society… It’s not just a simple issue given how “racist” a society can be… The latest in the USA were president Trump will no longer pursue the addition of a question on the 2020 USA’s census questionnaire on citizenship!!!!
More and more thing are boiling up in USA’s south border with Mexico …and more arrivals in Greece’s islands and mainland – south west Peloponnese! SHAME! There is not a single excuse to stand from the part of the European Union!!!
Turkey will soon become a pariah state within NATO and the EU in the Eastern Med with whatever this entails vis-à-vis the expected delivery as of tomorrow of part for the S-400… Let’s see what happens next… In the meantime the provocations and blackmail continues as usual… Watch this space…
In Cyprus, and rightly so, they are furious as the EU failed to actually take the appropriate steps against Turkey’s violation of Cyprus’ EEZ with Turkish drill ships unlawful drilling there… The time has come that soon we might see reprisals… We have explained that some nations strategic business interests should go aside as things one day may get sour!
In Greece they are also furious with the Turkish behaviour in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Med… CAUTION! PM Mitsotakis and his government have a lot of domestic and international issues to deal with!
What a disaster that was early this morning in Northern Greece and in particular at the Halkidiki Peninsula were due to adverse and strange whether phenomena / conditions six people lost their lives, a dozens were injured, mainly tourists… What a disaster with human loss… What a pity! We wish all the families worldwide you lost their loved ones our condolences and hope all those injured to get well soon! Due to this disastrous situation, an Act of God, all the meetings of Greece’s PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis were cancelled as well as many other social and business events! His newly sworn in government has a plan and hope the opposition abstains from unnecessary troubles, demos et al… They lost as they failed to deliver. No excuses please!!
The Balkans too – the tinderbox of Europe are in a mess… Turkey also tries to destabilize the region…
Italy: another disaster waiting to happen as many believe the captain might rock the boat… err the Euro… CAUTION!
BREXIT: expect mess. Above all the pound might be on …par with the USDollar and possibly the Euro. There MUST be a deal, but also we might see one day another referendum… You never ever know… One thing I can assure you it might happen one day: the persons who called a fast one to the people in the United Kingdom AND to the rest of Europe might seat one day in the dock; not of the bay but you dead well know were… CAUTION as not everybody agrees with Boris Johnson, although a frontrunner what he might inflict to the UK!
Now tell me what do you make out of the European Bank stress tests; will there be shortcomings… eh???
The UK Ambassador to the USA might have been forced out but not Powell from the Fed; he is here to stay…
The Iranians are very upset for the arrests on board the “Grace 1” in Gibraltar and they threat reprisals for the British and others… CAUTION!

On another tone and note and as we have pre-announced and hinted, the 45th WISTA-UK Anniversary took place a few hours ago at the best venue setting on Father Thames, at the IMO’s 4th floor with its unique balcony and stunning views, one of the largest of its kind!
Nearly 100 WISTA’s including three, the fab three were present and it was good to see some …old friends there from UK’s and other nations WISTAs. We did our best to boost the event, we had some last minutes hiccups but all went well.
Excellent cuisine, the IMO is .. notoriously ha ha, known for its top cuisine of any kind, including Greek salad to please Ioanna Topaloglou, the Pangalos’ and the grecophiles Maria Dixon, Nalan Tahir…
Short but to the points speeches by WISTA UK president Sue Terpilowski OBE, Ioanna Topaloglou from WISTA-Hellas, and all the thee fab – Margaret Lewellyn, the towering Stella Marks and the very content Jane Arkinson – very touching speeches as said as well as a very touching moment between the present president and her predecessor Maria Dixon…
After a lengthy reception in this superb IMO balcony with these magnificent early evening views of London at a good height to see everything we were ushered to the special purpose dinner hall. Live music as in September 2009 by ABBA FOREVER and a super 60’s/0’s DJ!! Dance until all nearly dropped, sensibly though!!! Ole!!
AND: Excellent service by the catering team too!!! A big Thanks goes to the sponsors: Saphire Sponsor Lloyd’s Register, Drinks Sponsor: Campbell Johnston Clark; Wine sponsor: The Marshall Islands Registry, All five Silver sponsors, All six supporters and the two charities Seafarers UK and Maritime Skills Alliances… 400 pounds were the donations; excellent!
