New cruise ship wharf opened
Friday, August 9, 2019, Eden, Australia

A new $44 million cruise ship wharf has been opened at the port of Eden, ending the need for passengers to be tendered ashore in small boats and reducing the likelihood of cruise ships cancelling a stopover due to rough conditions.

The extension of the existing wharf is a partnership involving the NSW Government with a $32 million contribution, $10 million from the Australian Government and $2 million from Bega Valley Shire Council.

The first cruise ship to use the wharf is scheduled to arrive with more than 2,000 passengers on September 15.

Aside from maintaining cruise ship interest in the port and developing local tourism products, future work planned includes a new passenger welcome centre, marina berths, and an overall port redevelopment.

Friday, August 9, 2019, Port Kembla, Australia

Due to current high winds, car carrier/RoRo shipping movements at Port Kembla have been temporarily suspended.

The Port Authority is assessing bulk carrier ship movements against environmental conditions on a case-by-case basis to gauge if it is safe to proceed or to delay arrival/departure until more favourable conditions prevail. Conditions are being continuously monitored to enable resumption of shipping as soon as possible.

The anchorage presently remains open to shipping.
