A celebration of the learning and debates that it continues to provide to the shipping community

We have pleasure in inviting you to join the London Shipping Law Centre, its members and key shipping figures at the Savoy Hotel, London to celebrate our 25 years of achievements on:
Wednesday 27th November 2019 from 6.15pm
A Champagne Reception and a superb three-course dinner will be followed by notable reflections on the past 25 years and some predictions into the future of commercial/maritime law and shipping by:

The Right Hon. the Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd (former Lord Chief Justice) and Matheos Los (former Chairman of the West of England P and I Club). In particular, the focus will be on the poignant theme of:

“How does the Future of Shipping Reflect on and Learn from the Past – Legal and Industry Highlights”.
Since 1994, when our Founder and Chairman Dr Aleka Sheppard established the LSLC, we have organised well over 300 seminars, special events and Cadwallader debates. In the 25 years, the themes and concerns that have arisen in the ever-changing environment of commercial shipping have been captured and debated. The LSLC has become a widely acknowledged Centre of excellence not just in maritime law and dispute resolution, but also in broader industry issues, such as ship safety, regulation, and many aspects of ship-operations. As a pioneer in risk management education, the LSLC’s events and courses have had an astounding impact on the continuous learning of shipping professionals, ship-operators, and lawyers.

It is not a co-incidence that at the same period Lord Donaldson’s Report on “Safer Ships and Cleaner Seas” was published in 1997.  The profound recommendations of that Report have been the core of our risk management seminars and mock trials over the years. Indeed, Lord Donaldson delivered our first Cadwallader Memorial Lecture in 1998 entitled: “The ISM Code – The Road to Discovery?” .

One of the Centre’s strengths is that it has attracted speakers and audiences from a wide range of specialisms and backgrounds. The body of our professional faculty members comprise not only the highest calibre of lawyers and academics but also experts from all sectors of the industry, to whom we will acknowledge our thanks at this auspicious event.

This landmark anniversary offers an opportunity to our Members, to our International Faculty of Speakers, to our Young Maritime Professionals, and to our Supporters, to come together to rejoice our joint successes and to learn about what the future might hold for shipping and the law.
