BDI falls @1,586; Geopolitics worsening and Coronavirus spreads further

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost 12 points since yesterday and now stands at 1,586. The Geopolitical situation gets worse and Coronavirus continues to spread. John Faraclas’ daily brief recap:

The Capes’ BCI lost the 2,400 points threshold and now stands at 2,375 – minus 25…

The Panamaxes’ BPI fell 21 points at 1,798 losing also the 1,800 points threshold…

On the antipode Supras and Handies clinched valuable single digit points; the BSI was up six at 949 and the BHSI up nine at 513…

Mixed feelings with the grounded Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 490 – minus three and 407 – plus seven points respectively…

The WTI looks likely ending  the day at US$ 42.53, which is 22 cents below yesterday’s closing (US$  42.75)… Still CAUTION as we need to see the WTI below the US$40 mark as this will alleviate the problems of 7.7 billion people on Planet Ocean currently facing poverty within a bankrupt World, deep and advancing Recession and the Coronavirus anathema with an uncertain time lapse.

The Geopolitical scene continues to deteriorate:

MIGRANTS top the list and with the British Channel becoming now a hot spot  – like those in the Aegean Sea and Med, as many cross over from the Continent  – mainly France creating more issues. We are witnessing record numbers this August with Kent County Council unable to cope with young and lone MIGRANT children. The number of MIGRANTS until now  (for 2020) approaches the 5,000 (five thousand)… In the Aegean and Med the crossings continue and it is about time to end this mess. It is already a threat for the social cohesion, an issue we have raised long ago in this medium and in international conferences.

The faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa with its main ten hot spots is the area which will produce World War Three. The stumbling block is Turkey and its despicable behaviour towards all of its neighbours using also religion as another weapon too. Wait and see Erdogan’s next bullying steps and further actions as he demands all former “historic” Ottoman lands… See whose talking on historic lands… What a palaver.

Europe continues in all aspects to be mess.

BREXIT still an ongoing process…

Belarus will trigger more mess in the Mighty Continent.

Lebanon will bother us for a long time and given the latest with the explosion in Beirut Port as well as “results” from the latest trial on who assassinated the late PM Hariri will trigger mess…

In general Middle East is back to square one, unfortunately… CAUTION.

At the other side of the Atlantic Joe Biden will be confirmed any minute now, as the one who will represent the Democrats for going to the Oval Office. Watch his space as President Trump is not an easy opponent.

The week US Dollar:  a major concern.

China and the USA at odds with trade and South China Sea…

More Geopolitics tomorrow…

The Coronavirus anathema is slowly engulfing us all and we need to see two things and two values being reactivated: Responsibility and Discipline; end of the story as soon we will have another lockdown….

On another tone and note we had this morning in the North East Aegean a symbolic athletic initiative spearheaded by Mrs Mary Liarou- Barbari, whose husband, a well known shipping man, comes from Innousses – the Islets between the fifth largest Greek Island of Chios and the Erythrean peninsula of the Anatolian Coast – today’s Turkey. Mrs Barbari, a mother of two, is taking part in Marathons, did the sea-swim crossing today from the Port of Innousses to the adjacent island of Panagia.

The Mayor of Innousses George Daniel – who also comes over to London for the Innoussian Benevolent Fund Annual Dinners and Dance, stated that Mrs. Barbaris’ initiative must continue for the coming years as, many Innoussians and their friends wish to take part in similar swim-sea crossings, adding that the Aegean is a Peaceful Sea and many athletic events can take place. Well done from both sides as these symbolic gestures do built a peaceful neighborhood – you need though two in a tango…

Have a nice evening and continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let’s work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red US$ 260 (twohundredandsixty) trillion…
