Supras and Handies survive in midweek market blues…
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) ended down at 1,709 points since yesterday – minus 18, which is also six points down since last Friday 19/02; mixed feelings for the Wets and sanctions against Russia will revive another business warm – not cold, war… Is the Coronavirus mess unstoppable…? John Faraclas’ midweek brief recap:
The Capes’ BCI lost 109 points and now reads 1,485, losing the 1,500 and 1,600 point-thresholds, as last Friday the 19th of Feb stood at 1,698 – down 213!
Controllable losses but still losses for our most favourable size, the Panamaxes with the BPI down to 2,276 points – minus 30. The half-week losses stood, thank Posidon, to only 56 points since 19/02…
What a surge for the Supras’ BSI now at 1,822 – up 78 surpassing the 1,800 points threshold. Since 19/02, we have witnessed 309 plus points from 1,513…
Handies’ BHSI surpassed the psychological 1,000 points threshold and now reads 1,018 – up 30! 117 points were added since las Friday the 19th of February when the Handies stood at 901. Three thresholds conquered – 1,600, 1,700 and 1,800!
So, all Dry Indices are above the 1,000 points; a milestone under the circumstances although we do not rule out volatile phenomena soon…
The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 668 – plus five and 556 – minus four points respectively. Since 19/02 the Dirties were up 29 – from 639 and he Cleans minus 15 – from 571 points respectively. Strange phenomena coupled with the price of oil…
The WTI rose to US$ 61.87, which is US$ 1.96 higher since 19/02. Now we are US$ 21.87 higher from the safe point/level of US$ 40, the maximum the WTI should read, as an cent above this level destroys the well-being of the 99 centum of 7,7 billion humans on Planet Ocean. Greediness will be “paid off” nicely with the mass use of Alternative Sources of Energy – mainly wind rotor sails, as well as with safe and refined atomic energy power driven ships. Watch this space!

On the Geopolitical front watch out the sanctions of the West – particularly of Joe Biden’s Administration against Putin’s Russia – Putin might retaliate asymmetrically… The European Union MUST have a coherent policy on this issue. At present, German lead Brussels MUST opt to cover its energy needs /requirements from Europe, from Med, the Aegean and East Med in particular, thus cementing Peace in the region and beyond. As we have numerous times stressed the importance of Peace from Gibraltar to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa – this vast faulty line, is paramount.
Turkey’s Erdogan double faced policy is extremely dangerous and the Bautas (the Masks) MUST fall in German led Europe as well as in the other side of the Atlantic… He is an extremely dangerous politician AND religious leader who will use any means available to destroy Peace, harm his people as well as the entire region and as just mention, Peace, World Peace. His notorious backers, MUST back off… Pestering every single nation in the region will eventually lead to an all-out war. Cyprus and Greece are his main targets… The UN, NATO and the European Union MUST intervene before in the aftermath of what is coming will begin with despicable excuses and damn lies! People should be aware what are in reality international waters; many academics, diplomats and politicians have a complete black-out and lack of knowledge either on purpose or by education… We can entertain them all live on an A1 TV station and humiliate them… Shipping and Shipping Law for them is out of their reach as well as how it works, needless to say Marine Insurance, SAR (Search and Rescue) as well as jurisdictions etc etc….
The Migrants mess continues and there is no end to all this inhumane mess, for the Migrants themselves – save terrorists under cover, and nations such as Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Spain and obviously Turkey which is “inviting” them on purpose and exploit them for Turkey’s needs. CAUTION!

At the other side of the Atlantic newly elected USA president Joe Biden and his administration are doing their best to put back America on the designated place and order to run Planet Ocean following Donald Trump’s “eccentric” political and geopolitical “leadership” … One of his main tasks is to halt Chinese advances not only in South China Sea, but in the entire Pacific Basin…
In Africa, the Subcontinent, Middle East, North Korea, Central and South America and Australia situation remains more or less the same…
Above all, never forget we are in a deep Recession which will cause tsunamis everywhere, so get your act together and let as have a pragmatic policy on the economy. Even without the Coronavirus mess, things were turning sour every single day!!
