American Club circular no.05/21 – pre-employment medical examinations (PEME) and COVID-19: an update
MARCH 01, 2021CIRCULAR NO. 05/21TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATIONDear Member:PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS (PEME) AND COVID-19: AN UPDATE
The significant restrictions on shipowners’ ability to perform regular crew changes, due to COVID-19, continue to be a challenge for the maritime community.
As a result, and superseding the previous policy notified in Circular 02/21 of January 15, 2021, your Managers are further extending the validity of American Club PEME certificates to April 15, 2021 for seafarers originating from Bulgaria, India, Indonesia, Latvia, Philippines, Poland, Romania, the Russian Federation and Ukraine who:
1) currently hold valid American Club PEME certificates which have expired, or which are due to expire prior to April 15, 2021;
and 2) are currently deployed onboard a vessel entered for P&I cover with the Club. For seafarers awaiting deployment, the current requirements remain in effect, as summarized at: https://www.american-club.com/page/pemes.
Any requests for exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Managers, and will require their prior approval.
As always, the Managers will be pleased to respond to all inquiries arising from the above. Please direct any inquiries regarding the American Club’s PEME program to Dr. William Moore, Senior Vice President at firstname.lastname@example.org.
