The BDI@3,139: Volatility strikes back; Middle East sparks fears and Coronavirus spreads further

John Faraclas

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost 115 points “thanks” to the volatile Capes… Wets “gained” momentum as every points helps… Mind the Middle East, now derailed and Covid-19 spreading… John Faraclas’ midweek recap:

The Capes’ BCI lost 359 points, simultaneously the 4,800 to 5,000 points threshold – a considerable fall… and now reads at 4,709…

Panamaxes’ losses were minimal – minus 15 points with the BPI standing at 3,067 points…

Positive signs for both the Supras and Handies; the BSI was up 24 at 2,269 and the BHSI 18 at 1,241 points respectively…

Still a buoyant Dry Market; any point / level above 2,000, makes the BDI profitable…

Good news from the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 613 – plus seven and 507 – plus three points respectively… Still very low and let us hope for better days…

The WTI stood at US$ 66.08, which is 80 cents higher from yesterday’s closing – surpassing tonight the US$66 threshold is bad news. Pray for a fall tomorrow!

The Geopolitical front becomes blur with the escalation of Migrants crossing over to any European dependency they “discover” first and the despicable escalation of the Israeli – Palestinian conflict with unknown results which will reshape the entire Middle East and wider politics. We might see a wider conflict which will affect everything as Peace is now a midsummer’s night dream.

More Geopolitical news tomorrow as these two issues above are enough to ignite and burn everything on Planet Ocean. Many have asked for help but same falls in deaf ears – for both the MIGRANTS issue as well as the Middle Eastern problem between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Coronavirus spreads and we must at least control same. I guess in months’ time we might see what is really happening in India. We shall also see how the opening of the tourist season in the northern Hemisphere “copes” with the virus and mutations…. CAUTION… as we are still in the beginning. In the meantime, we await the boosters, these so called vaccine top-ups, which might boost our immune systems and block new Covid mutations… Expect also booster combinations, but above all, we expect to have the entire Planet Ocean population vaccine twice and also see medicines available without prescription. This is when will ensure immunity or at worse containment of the Coronavirus Anathema.  India will be the guide for everything….

Meantime we must not abandon our fight on the Environment and save ourselves and our heavily polluted Planet Ocean…

On another tone and note as you can see in earlier reporting, the Greek Minister of Tourism Harry Theocharis ended a three-day official visit in the British capital.  He met his counterpart, Tour operators and gave an important and down to earth Press Conference at the Greek Ambassador’s residence this morning answering to over twenty questions. The message more than clear: Greece is safe, see you at the lands of the 12 Gods!

Have a nice evening and continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let us work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red over US$ 300 (three hundred) trillion…
