Boris Johnson’s gravest test is yet to come: managing the aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic coupled with Britain’s European Union exit. In a global politico-democratic and demographic minefield, the British prime minister will find steering the economy is fraught with danger. Economic policy must tackle inequality. This will be Johnson’s crucial test. He will muddle into inflation, leaving radical tax reform as the only escape. This raises still more urgently the need for a UK wealth tax.

Boris Johnson’s most self-opinionated and self-deceiving adviser has been exposed as a Wizard of Oz. Johnson was the object of a seven-hour Cummings committee attack. But he has survived worse. His weekend Catholic marriage brings varied repercussions – for both the US and Scotland. Unless he decides his stretched finances rule out such a low-paid job, Johnson may be on course for ruling as long as he likes.
