KVH Elite Addresses Superyacht Trend for Working from the Yacht with Fast Connectivity

KVH Superyacht Group speaking at ‘IBI Boat as Workplace’ Tech Talk at METS

For KVH, a global leader in maritime connectivity, the focus at the METSTRADE show this year (November 16-18, Amsterdam) will be supporting the trend for increased connectivity for superyachts. Much of the demand stems from superyacht owners and guests wanting to work from the yacht in remote locations. “During the past year, we’ve seen a big increase in demand for connectivity from boats and yachts,” says Jim George, KVH’s VP for Americas & Global Leisure. “Whether the yacht is being used just on weekends or every day as a workplace, everyone wants to stay connected and that means more data.”

KVH is supporting the superyacht connectivity trend with products and services; OEM partnerships with superyacht builders; and expertise in the market.

KVH Elite™, a service for unlimited high-speed VSAT streaming at sea, is designed to meet increased superyacht connectivity needs by delivering data speeds as fast as 40 Mbps down/3 Mbps up. This service supports live gaming and streaming for entertainment as well as key work needs including remote video calls and stock market tracking. For example, a Zoom or Microsoft Teams meeting via satellite Internet typically uses about 1 MB per minute, so an unlimited stream of fast data as provided by KVH Elite is needed to support a lengthy call. For yachts with less intensive data needs, KVH’s newest VSAT product is the ultra-compact TracPhone® V30, which offers unlimited airtime plans delivering data speeds of 6 Mbps down/2 Mbps up.

With award-winning maritime products – KVH’s satellite television and satellite communications antenna products have won NMEA product of excellence awards for more than 20 years – leading manufacturers specify KVH products for their boats. KVH OEMs in the leisure marine sector include Italian superyacht builders Ferretti, Azimut Benetti, Cantiere delle Marche, Sanlorenzo, and Overmarine. Additional European yacht OEMs for KVH satellite products include Sunseeker®, Princess, Oyster, and other leading yacht manufacturers.

At METS, a series of Tech Talks have been planned by show organizers to highlight the superyacht connectivity trend. KVH Superyacht Group’s Paolo Belluomini will be a panelist at a Tech Talk hosted by IBI Magazine called “Boat as Workplace,” Thursday, November 18, at 12:30 CET.
