The BDI@1,873: hiccups or just volatility’s norm..?

John Faraclas

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost 154 points since yesterday and now dives below the 2,000 point threshold… What’s next? The tension between the superpowers, the worsening recession all over Planet Ocean and Covid will make Geopolitics unbearable. Covid itself will bother us for the foreseeable future unless we give the handling of this anathema to the medical people who will decide how to tackle same as well as the way out, and NOT to unqualified politicians. John Faraclas’ brief daily recap:

Capes’ losses were considerable, down 351 with the BCI down to 1,746 losing also its 2,000 points threshold…

Panamaxes’ losses were also a triple digit figure, 113 with the BPI down to 2,452 losing  the 2,500 points threshold…

Supras lost 21 points with the BSI reading 1,915 points whilst Handies lost 19 points and the BHSI now stands at 1,209 points.

All in all a downward Dry Market and ships just make the breakeven… If this continues and debts are high be prepared for the inevitable…

Wets still on the low side; Dirties lost the 600 point mark with the BDTI down to 596 points. Hooray hooray the Cleans gained four points with the BCTI …up at 698!!

The WTI lost 52 cents and now reads US$ 82.12. Since the 31st of December 2021 the WTI has gained just over US$ 7.43, a substantial rise leading to a well projected mess if same doesn’t drops; c a u t i o n!

On the Geopolitical front the faulty line from Lisbon to Kabul and from the Caucuses down to the Horn of African remains as always turbulent. More than ten conflicts and more are yet to come…

Europe and in particular the EU is trying to get its act together being faced with multiple of issues…

The Migrants issue is, going from worse to worse…

Covid spreads and wonder how the unqualified politicians who govern us will contain this mess. Even in the world of sports covid and politics call a fast one on all of us.

More on Geopolitics tomorrow in our weekly recap.

Have a nice evening and continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let us work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red over US$ 350 (threehundredandfifty) trillion…
