Despite BDI’s …fall a …better week with enigmatic Wets; Ukraine and Energy issues too tricky whilst Coronavirus remains at large

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost two points since yesterday and now reads 1,423 whilst on a weekly basis same was up 42 – from 1,381, thanks mainly to the Capes surpassing the 1,400 points threshold. Re-adjustments (?) in the second faulty line from Murmansk down to Batumi… Coronavirus still at large… John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:
The ever volatile Capes’ BCI lost 49 points and now stands at 1,242 points, but on a weekly basis, following a mini “rally”, gained 157- up from 1,075 last Friday the 28th of January.
Panamaxes’ gains managed to save the day, 1,796 points, up 25 but losing the 1,800 points threshold of last week when the BPI stood at 1,840 – minus 44…
Some ups and downs for the Supras’ BSI, now at 1,594 – up 23. On a weekly basis the BSI lost three points from the 1,597 on 28 Jan.2022…
Some favourable …peanuts for the Handies’ BHSI now at 990 – plus two, but on a weekly basis 21 points were lost (1,011), as well as the 1,000 psychological threshold.
Every single plus point is more than welcomed until the BDI reaches the 2,000 point threshold and let us hope same will be achieved after the Chinese New Year Celebrations.
Wets still in a mess; ups and downs and still very low. The last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 679 – no change since yesterday and 589 – plus two points respectively. On a weekly basis the BDTI and BCTI lost eight points (from 687) and the BCTI gained 25 (from 554) respectively. CAUTION!
The WTI following its surge above the US$ 90 yesterday at US$ 90.27, today ended up another US$ 2.04 and now at US$ 92.31 causes more than troubles… On a weekly basis same was up US$ 5.49 – up from US$ 86.82 on the 28th of January… So, who’s calling the shots and what may this rise trigger… A big C A U T I O N!!!
On the Geopolitical front we are entering a period which will change life on Planet Ocean in case Russia invades Ukraine or even if Ukraine for one reason or another confronts Russia. A major built up and as said in the preamble we might see re-adjustments in the second faulty line from Murmansk down to Batumi… Already we have issues with over ten flush points in the main faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan – even beyond these days. The Baltic States too are also prepared for a confrontation with Russia and we might see more troops from USA and Germany go closer to Ukraine – Poland and Romania… AND elsewhere… What will Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping do next following the Russia’s accusations that NATO is expanding? CAUTION to all…
Migrants still getting their way to Europe and now seems this will backfire as Europe had enough…
In the United Kingdom, PM Boris Johnson is fighting hard to remain in power; watch this space as the knives are out to get him… He will do whatever possible and many changes are in his agenda to save his position and that of the Conservative party.
Inflation hits everywhere and we might see demos around the World which coupled with the spectacular rise in energy prices, the worse ever Recession and Covid’s uncertainty might trigger even social upturns…
Let’s see how the Beijing Winter Olympics develop; some surprises will come…
And what do you make of the Cyberattacks on European Oil Terminals which causes disruption and…
