Message from CEO David Hart
At the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2021, I was honoured to take up the mantle as CEO of the BDA. As CEO, I am responsible for providing energetic and collaborative leadership to drive results with respect to the BDA’s mission of growing and diversifying Bermuda’s economy by attracting investment and employment in targeted industries. I hit the ground running, welcoming global leaders for the Bermuda Tech Summit, representing Bermuda as part of a delegation at COPO26 in Scotland, and joining Bermuda’s climate risk finance roadshow where we met with leading global capital allocators with combined assets under management of nearly $11 trillion. The BDA capped off 2021 with its official End of Year Report, which details the agency’s success in bringing business to Bermuda and promoting the jurisdiction as an ideal place to both work and live. Bermuda Climate Summit The BDA, in partnership with the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) and KBRA, will welcome climate thought leaders to Bermuda this May 24 for the invite-only Bermuda Climate Summit. Building on its status as the world’s risk capital, Bermuda is now positioning itself as a world capital for climate risk finance, the most adjacent vertical to its key market strengths: re/insurance, Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS), and financial services expertise.The Summit will connect senior policymakers, leading scientists, NGO-heads, and business leaders to share their unique insights and solutions for the world’s biggest challenge, climate change. Bermuda Tech Week Bermuda Tech Week is back! From Oct. 24-28, innovators from around the world will descend on Bermuda to a series of events including the Bermuda Tech Summit and the Bermuda Education Summit. Last year’s Bermuda Tech Summit welcomed nearly 800 delegates from 500 companies across 52 countries to learn, share ideas, and connect with one another. 2021 End of Year Report The BDA capped off 2021 with its official End of Year Report, which details the agency’s success in bringing business to Bermuda and promoting the jurisdiction as an ideal place to both work and live. BDA Launches ESG Hub The BDA has launched an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) hub to highlight how Bermuda is building on its conservation legacy to tackle climate change. Since its inception, Bermuda has been a steadfast steward of both the land and sea, passing the New World’s first written conservation legislation in 1620 to protect sea turtles. Today, Bermuda is one of the rare places where passionate environmental research and conservation organizations intersect with climate risk mitigation-minded businesses and green government policies to create a fortified response to climate change.The BDA is building a framework around climate risk finance mitigation, combining Bermuda’s industry strengths with the country’s forward-thinking policies and world-renown research. Economic Investment Certificate Anniversary Bermuda’s Economic Investment Certificate (EIC) initiative celebrates its one-year anniversary this year! The initiative provides qualifying parties with the opportunity of living and working in Bermuda for five years. To qualify, candidates must invest a minimum of $2.5 million in an approved category that includes real estate, charity, and new business. EIC has generated over $300 million of investment since its inception 1 year ago. The BDA is proud to be a lead facilitator of this initiative and looks forward to a strong second year. |
![]() Sold Out Bermuda Risk Summit Hailed Great Succes The sold-out Bermuda Business Development Agency’s (BDA) Bermuda Risk Summit was declared an immense success, with over 80 overseas delegates in attendance. The immediate economic impact of the event, which had a total of 350 delegates, including lodging, transportation, food and beverage, retail and recreation was estimated at over one million dollars, and supported around 200 jobs.
