There is a tremendous scope for increasing Women’s participation in Maritime (on board and ashore). At the same time, I think women have come a long way, since the 70’s.
Women have climbed the ladder to management level jobs as the 1 income family evolved to the 2 income family and the single parent family.
Women are multi-tools empowered by their innate qualities of empathy and childbearing to raising healthy-minded human beings — the ultimate job.
Being raised in NYC in the 80’s by my mother from Syros with Kassian-Cretan parents herself and my hard-working father from Chios and my working while being educated, I gained the best of all worlds. A creativeness and work ethic that made me a retail entrepreneur by age 24.
In the late 90’s, in my next field, a fuel broker in the Marine fuels industry, there was only a handful of hard working lady traders in Greece and maybe 20 in the world. Today it’s 50-50.
But it’s not about being a woman that makes someone special. It’s about the sense of purpose and it’s genderless.
Womanity is genderless. The qualities can be found in male and female.
Womanity exudes a strong sense of purpose, a caring for yourself and everyone to be well and happy, coming from assurance, forgiveness, intelligence and strong sense of faith.
