Today, the 8th of March 2023, is International Women’s Day (IWD) and I am celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world.

I raise a glass to all women’s achievements, I call for positive change advancing women, I raise awareness for women’s equality and gender parity. For IWD 2023, the global campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity. The campaign aims to encourage important conversations on ‘Why equal opportunities aren’t enough’ and ‘Why equal isn’t always fair’.

And to truly embrace equity, means to deeply believe, value, and seek out difference as a necessary and positive element of life. To embrace equity means to understand the journey required to achieve women’s equality. Purple, green and white are the colours of International Women’s Day 2023 and all these colours can be seen in my photo today. From my perspective, I see all women’s ‘true colours’ in the maritime sector, where I am honoured to work and be an active member of various women’s maritime associations and organisations. Now is more than ever ‘the time for guts and guile’ and I am more than confident that women can play a vital role in the creation of a fairer and more inclusive world.
