ILCA 4 Youth World Championship – 22 to 30 July 2023 – Volos, Greece

In the International Laser Class Youth World Championships between 23 and 30 July 2023, which was organised by the Nautical Club of Volos & Argonauts, Kleopatra Anastassiou won second place and the silver medal among 150 girl sailors competing from 50 countries.
Teammate Hermione Ghicas was first while Alina Shapovalona from Ukraine came third.
Kleopatra was throughout the championship among the top three sailors with consistent performance, in a challenging event in all respects. Differing wind speed conditions and directions created a testing atmosphere, where consistency and endurance were the criteria of a successful outcome.
Kleopatra has been member of the Nautical Club of Palaio Faliro (aka Falifornia) from her early years. Before this victorious result in the ILCA 4 sailing category she had won the Gold Medal of the Optimist sailing category at the Optimist European Championship in Cadiz, Spain, in 2021.
Moreover Kleopatra’s mother, Athina Sirimi, a member also of the Chios Marine Club, emanates from Chios, the Island of the Winds and Mastiha, and she’s involved in marine insurance – her father was a master mariner; her grandfather on her father’s side is PNO (Panhellenic Seaman’s Union) representative at the IMO…
