The Emeritus Professor of Philosophy of the University of Athens Konstantinos I. Boudouris begun yesterday morning at the age of 88 his journey to the Sea of Eternity
He was a dynamic and tireless minister of philosophical education, an enthusiastic researcher, an excellent organiser of important international meetings, among which the XXIII World Philosophy Congress in 2013.
An abundant editor of scientific reviews and collective volumes, he contributed to the promotion and appreciation of Greek culture, particularly ancient Greek philosophy. Several notable achievements can be highlighted.
One such accomplishment is the establishment of the Greek Philosophical Review in 1984 which continues to thrive today. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in founding both the International Association of Greek Philosophy (DEEF – IAGP) and the International Center of Greek Philosophy and Culture (DIKEFIP – ICGPC). These institutions have fostered fruitful intellectual exchange on a global scale while promoting international collaboration within the realm of philosophical ideas.
Notably successful were the annual IAGP International Conferences held from 1989 to 2019. These gatherings brought together philosophers from various countries and academic institutions worldwide to explore different facets of Greek culture. The conferences served as platforms for scholarly discourse that enriched both philosophical inquiry and cultural understanding.
Moreover, Professor Konstantinos I. Boudouris mentored numerous students throughout his career—both domestic and international—who are deeply grateful for his guidance. Many individuals owe their PhD dissertations and scholarly papers to his supervision and support.
As we move forward following Professor Boudouris’ passing, it is comforting to know that his legacy shall endure through his son, Dr Ioannis Boudouris – a distinguished professor of Maritime Law at Frederick University Cyprus.
N.B. We have planned some 15 years ago to organise a philosophical gathering on Shipping but venues were fully booked at Posidonia 2010; now this is a must and we shall organise same with his son Dr. Ioannis Boudouris
