John Faraclas of www.allaboutshipping.co.uk appeared again on the multi-facet issue of the Red Sea on Vergina TV’s Athens studio live from London with Stergios Kalogiros moderating the panel with two more participants; politician and leader of the DI.K.E.A political party Panagiotis Lafazanis, and lawyer Victor Tsilonis who was recently elected president of the Committee of Deontology of the Lawyers’ Association of the Criminal Court of Hague.
Further to the 21st of December 2023 interview with Stergios Kalogiros, Faraclas’ points were:
a)reiterated his beliefs on what will happen in the Red Sea – given the clash between Israel and Hamas, the rise only of Container FEU’s freight rates from US$ 1,170 in December to US$ 4,400 today for the trip Shanghai to Rotterdam via the Cape of Good Hope. The Dry Market has fell significantly from the December 2023 figures…
b)Insisted that the UK will act against the Houthis, reminding what the UK did during the Falklands crisis in the 80’s under the late British PM, Lady Thatcher, as there are vested interests in the region…
c)On the Ukraine mess that it will be very difficult for any Russian leader to compromise, but said that Mr. Putin must make Peace or else – the Russian people will suffer, Planet Ocean too.
d)Explained the issue of the Environment saying explicitly that Shipping pollutes only 2,7 centum, so it’s the offshore business to blame; he referred also on 2030 and 2050 time frames …
e)The issue of Transdniester and the Soviet era’s movement of Russian population to the surrounding borders of the then Soviet Union… as well as that we are prisoners of Geography with whatever this entails
f)What might happen in the Far East following the election of Lai Ching-Te in Taiwan… The south China Sea will produce “tremors”
g)The elections in the USA raising his eyebrows when the issue was mentioned…
