Gavin Allwright, Secretary General of the International Windship Association

From the International Windship Association (IWSA) regarding a submission of a wind propulsion white paper made to the upcoming 81st IMO Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC81) that delivers a detailed baseline assessment of wind propulsion technology (WPT) systems and outlines pathways underway for the dissemination and scaling of this technology segment.

The content of this white paper provides:

  • A detailed macro and micro economic analysis of the benefits of following a wind-hybrid decarbonisation pathway.
  • An updated market analysis and case studies covering numerous wind propulsion solutions
  • Information about installations undertaken to-date.
  • Results from an IWSA initiated survey of industry stakeholder perspectives relating to wind propulsion uptake
  • A detailed summary of barriers and drivers in the industry.

A version of this whitepaper will be made available in a different format to the MEPC submission format attached in coming weeks. However, for now – this submission to MEPC81 may be of interest for your reporting in the lead up to, or during the week of MEPC81 ( March 18-22) or it may assist with the provision of information around wind propulsion technology for your future reporting on the technology area.
