Successful 5th Edition of ‘The Science of Buying Bunkers’ Virtual Course

Organized by Conference Connection and led by Ms. Irene Notias, Course Director, currently Country Manager, Sing Fuels Hellas and Former MD of Prime’s Bunkersplus Services, the 5th edition of the virtual course on “The Science of Buying Bunkers” was successfully held from February 21-22, 2024 and ended today (5th March 2024).

Since its inception in May 2021, the course has attracted participants from diverse sectors of the maritime industry covering locations in South East Asia, North Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa & Europe. From shipowning, shipmanagement, bunker supply and trading to marine services, delegates representing various segments of the industry convened to delve into the intricacies of bunker fuel procurement.

The course provided invaluable insights into best practices for effective bunker fuel procurement, what drives fuel price and how to prevent claims, equipping participants with the requisite techniques and processes to navigate bunker inquiries adeptly. By defining the multifaceted roles of stakeholders within the bunker procurement supply chain, the course underscored the pivotal role of relationships and collaboration in fostering optimal outcomes for all stakeholders.

The course also featured a unique role-playing Bunker Game, immersing delegates in various supply chain roles. Participants engaged in simulated bunker inquiries and negotiations, assuming roles as suppliers, traders, brokers or buyers. This interactive exercise provided first-hand experience in navigating procurement complexities and negotiation skills.
