
The Blue MBA showed an excellent presence during ShipCon24 in Oslo.
ShipCon 24 which was organized by YoungShip Norway in connection with their 20th anniversary celebration kicked off on 20th of August on board the beautiful Christian Radich which provided an excellent platform for expanding networks. The conference continued with several panels during 21 and 22 August with outstanding speakers addressing the challenges of the maritime industry such as shipowners trade and decarbonization, regulations, geopolitics, digitalization, seafarers health, risk and insurance as well as the skill sets needed for the young generation of maritime professionals to face the challenges of this ever changing industry.
The Blue MBA showed an excellent presence during the conference.
Martin Kjendlie, Vice President of Business Development, Kongsberg Maritime (Class of 2017) moderated the panel on “Risk – Navigating Global Uncertainty” where the focus was on insurance in times of crisis and risks/opportunities from a financial point of view. The geopolitics, protectionism, decarbonation and alternative fuels, digitalization, and the risks connected to cyberattacks were amongst the areas Martin led the panel to address.
Erle Kristin Wagle, Director, Maritime Strategy and Business Development at Mintra (Class of 2011) had an active participation on the panel “Seafarers: The Human Factor” where she elaborated on the maritime training landscape in change. She led the conversation through the COVID time which accelerated the digital transformation which resulted in finding a new way to continue educating and preparing the world’s seafarers for the very important task they have despite travel restrictions, she indicated that this resulted in the emergence of more digital interactive learning, allowing immersive training anytime and anywhere.
Bo Cerup-Simonsen, Chief Executive Officer of Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (Class of 2009) spoke at the panel “Zero Emissions: Stop Talking, Start Walking”. He highlighted the massive systemic change we are facing and to achieve the zero emission for collaboration across the eco system and the value chain is necessary in order to accelerate the transition needs to be a part of the solution. Bo shared important lessons on collective problem-solving and decision-making that could benefit any industry making a green transition.

Irene Rosberg, Programme Director of the Blue MBA, participated in the panel “Ask the Experts”; where the expertise required for the new generation of professionals within the maritime industry was discussed. She spoke about the challenges of the industry and the skill sets needed to face these challenges. She highlighted that shipping and logistics are fast-moving and ever-changing endeavours and both the ship operators and providers of infrastructure within the maritime industry need to integrate environmental rules and social responsibility into their business plans and prepare their manpower by upskilling them. Senior management is confronted with increasing complexity and unpredictability as shipping seeks to minimize its carbon footprint and the Blue MBA stands to the fore in directly addressing the needs of the industry and its practitioners.
