Following the conclusion of the symposium on the Extreme Maritime Weather, the prestigious annual event begun at the mezzanine of IMO’s HQ in the British capital overlooking Father Thames…

“Navigating the Future: Safety First!” was the theme of this year’s Maritime Day event, focusing on the paramount importance of maritime safety and security in all aspects and in particular at times of some dangerous geopolitical issues, the two wars in Ukraine and the Middle East affecting the shipping industry and that of the safety of seafarers and the marine environment!

I had the opportunity to discuss the topic thoroughly with Meteorologists from the World Meteorological Organization and in particular with representatives/delegates from the United States of America, Germany, Canada, and South Africa.

from the reception

Around 19:15 the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization Arsenio Dominguez (pictured above), welcomed all guests with his speech and thereafter he lit up the blue lights outside the IMO headquarters building.

Afterwards, I met the Chairman of the Institute of the Chartered Shipbrokers at London and South East Branch, Mike Robarts (pictured below) and many other interesting guests from various sectors of the shipping industry.

Stephanie Stevenson (USA) and Anne Wiese (Germany) with a US representative.

The reception continued with nice drinks and dips as well as classic music (picture above).

Guests in jovial mood during the reception

We would like to thank the Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez for hosting this year’s event as well all at the IMO who contributed to this timely event and we shall revert with the full account.
