The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has published its Annual Report for 2023.
The Annual Report includes statistics on accidents to UK ships and seafarers worldwide, and to foreign flag vessels and their crews in UK waters. It also contains an overview of the work of the MAIB, details of reports published and contains analysis of the safety recommendations issued during the year and the status of outstanding recommendations from previous years.
During 2023, the MAIB:
-Raised 1592 reports of marine accidents involving 1741 vessels -Commenced 19 investigations, of which 12 involved loss of life. -10 reports were published and 27 recommendations to 16 separate addressees were issued in 2023
A statement from the Chief Inspector can be found at the start of the report. In his statement he raises concerns about potential significant under-reporting of fishing vessel accidents. Â
