Following last Friday’s interview on the above subjects – which was cut-off after a minute due to a power cut, Vergina TV’s Christina Tsorba questions John Faraclas of allaboutshipping.co.uk on the Tariffs, the Greek Flag and Seafarers. Fellow journalist Vassiliki Politou also participated with nice interventions and points.

The Shipbuilding industry was appropriately mentioned and in particular president Trump’s view of building ships in US shipyards.

It is worth to mention that over the past three plus years, we have discussed with Christina Tsorba the issue of attracting ships to the greek flag as well as Seafarers – the Nea Michaniona Merchant Marine Academy in Thessaloniki and the bad marketing which must change.

On the MEPC 83 “conclusion” following voting and given that in October the IMO will convene again, say all goes well, Faraclas said: what will happen with the billions collected from the levy: will same go to the Pacific and other vulnerable islands, or in projects/studies or in both, but what will happen if there is no success: who will pay the ferryman?

Faraclas also stressed that the private shipping sector does its best with forums to attract youngers as Seafarers as well as for Shipping companies giving the recent example of the well organised conference ten days ago in Chios at the University of Aegean with the participation of its students as well as those from the Merchant Marine Academy of Chios – Deck – marine engineers, and that of the adjacent Island of Inousses – Merchant Marine Academy – deck officers thanks to Chartworld Maritime!
