Can I tempt you to sponsor Spinnaker’s boat in the 2025 OSCAR Dragon Boat Race on 11th September? As you probably already know, Spinnaker organises this annual event getting the shipping industry together to raise money to fund childhood cancer treatments and research at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. We are really proud of our part in the event and hope we can encourage you to support us, in particular to help fund a new children’s cancer centre.
A few facts and figures to win you over!
- 30 teams take part every year, about 50% of them shipowners, plus P&I clubs, law firms, shipbrokers, insurance brokers, insurers and shipping recruiters
- Shipping has already raised £3.6m to support the work at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH)
- The dragon boat race has raised £2.5m of that total
- Treatments developed at GOSH are shared worldwide
- OSCAR has funded brand new leukaemia treatments plus the development and improvement of existing treatments
- Oscar himself – after whom the campaign is named and whose father is Spinnaker’s CEO Phil Parry – was saved by an experimental type of bone marrow transplant which has been refined and is now in regular use
- The new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH is costing £300m to build, of which over 60% has already been raised
