V. Kikilias: “The reflection of the Greece-US agreements will be the reduction of the cost of living for Greeks”

“The Greece-US agreements are very good, very strong and send a message everywhere. We are primarily interested in the impact of the agreements being the reduction of the cost of living for Greek citizens,” said the Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, in an interview he gave to MEGA TV and journalists, Dinos Siomopoulos and Stella Gandonas.

“In recent years, due to the energy crises from wars, we have seen inflation that has greatly affected our cost of living. We have seen expensive energy prices in industrial power, but mainly in everything that has to do with households, and we have also seen precision in the everyday lives of citizens. The possibility of such agreements should aim, in the long term, to reduce inflation, reduce energy prices, and therefore reduce the prices of commercial products for the average Greek family.”

“80% – 90% of world trade is done by sea. Whoever controls this, controls – damn the lies – the planet geostrategically, geopolitically and economically.”

“Greece, therefore, has the first commercial fleet in the world – a Greek-owned fleet – and a great many ships that transport LNG. It is a dominant power on the planet and this will play a key role in the transport of this natural gas,” Mr. Kikilias emphasized.

Regarding American investments in infrastructure, the Minister of Shipping emphasized that, with the approval of the Prime Minister, the next step from the Zappeion agreements is discussions on American investments in Greek shipyards and ports, which have a dominant role in the global bras-de-fer, for the control of sea lanes, global trade and energy.

“American investments will be made in Greece, in a port or ports that will also have energy use, with a railway and airport nearby and in such a way that they can serve the commercial as well as the geostrategic – geopolitical, possibly also the defense part,” Mr. Kikilias pointed out, explaining that “probably, another FSRU, with the ability of a port to move cargo, containers, RO-RO, LNG, etc. ships, but also to host, possibly, even warships, can serve the entire strategy of the region.”
