OBF President John M Hadjipateras welcoming guests

On Saturday 22nd November 2025, the glittering lights and yuletide sounds of Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland was a forerunner to the scintillating atmosphere, music and glamour that was awaiting 450 guests, from near and far, as they descended onto the Ballroom at The Peninsula Hotel to attend The Oinoussian Ball 2025.

This year, the top table included two very special guests, the celebrated international bestselling author and honorary Greek, Victoria Hislop and her journalist, editor and TV personality husband, Ian Hislop.

The tables were adorned with stylish seasonal bouquets along with goodie bags filled with almond bites from Citrus and some hand drawn postcards with island views. The menu had a maritime- inspired selection with Orkney Scallop, Miso Glazed Cod and delicious Pumpkin Cheesecake and Cinnamon Ice Cream.

The President of The Oinoussai Benevolent Fund, John M. Hadjipateras welcomed the guests in his usual amiable manner and highlighted the diverse work and achievements of OBF during the last twelve months. He noted his decade of leadership. He thanked the room for their continued support and interest, and the feelings of appreciation for his efforts and leadership were loudly acknowledged by the guests.

Prior to dessert, OBF Vice-President George Theo. Lemos introduced Victoria Hislop for a brief stage discussion. Ms. Hislop shared insights into her literary inspirations, affinity for Greece, and personal experiences, engaging the audience throughout. She also disclosed that her next novel would be set in Chios and Oinousses and generously contributed an auction item allowing the highest bidder’s name to feature as a character in her upcoming work.

It was now time for the music to begin and OBF welcomed a new DJ Manos Tsoukalas to spin the decks and to fill the dance floor, which he did promptly. For those preferring alternative entertainment, the photo booth was waiting to be occupied in the anteroom that also housed a bar. To the delight of the guests, the ever-popular Masticha Liqueur made its long-awaited return onto the tables, to quench the thirst of the dancing guests, enhancing the festive mood.

At midnight, the raffle winners were announced along with the successful bidders in the silent auction. There were many happy faces of winners in the room.

The music carried on with an eclectic mix of Greek and International music until carriages at 2am saw the remaining guests depart the hotel tired but contented.
