McLaren has unveiled its new MCL HY hypercar in Monaco, marking the British manufacturer’s return to top-level endurance racing ahead of the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The project signals a major new chapter for McLaren, which now plans to compete simultaneously in Formula 1, IndyCar and endurance racing during what the team describes as a new “golden era” for sports car competition. Danish driver Michael Jensen has been confirmed as the first official driver for the programme and has already taken part in the development of the car, praising its impressive downforce and performance characteristics. McLaren also revealed that a road-going version inspired by the hypercar will eventually be made available to selected customers.
