WISTA UK welcomes Maritime Minister and Deputy Speaker to Summer Drinks Reception at the IMO
WISTA UK hosted its Summer Drinks Reception at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, bringing together members of the UK maritime community for an evening of celebration, networking and reflection on the sector’s progress.
Held in glorious sunshine at the IMO’s headquarters, the event attracted a strong turnout from across the shipping, maritime and logistics sectors, with guests enjoying ice creams and merchandise while catching up between a series of speeches.
Speakers at the reception included Keir Mather MP, Minister of State for Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation, Azara Prempeh, Director at the IMO, Philippa Charlton, Chief Marketing Officer at Lloyd’s Register, and Nusrat Ghani MP, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and Chairman of Ways and Means. Each spoke on the themes of collaboration, diversity and the ongoing decarbonisation of the shipping industry.
The evening was sponsored by Lloyd’s Register, Gard AS and Stephenson Harwood LLP, with the IMO hosting proceedings at its London headquarters.
Among those in attendance was Bayleigh Funnell, WISTA UK’s first cadet, whose presence was highlighted by organisers as a sign of the talent and enthusiasm coming through the next generation of maritime professionals.
WISTA UK extended its thanks to the WISTA UK Committee for their work in organising the event, which forms part of the organisation’s wider programme supporting women across the maritime, shipping and logistics sectors.
