AGL’s Anatomy of Patience Turns Italian Craft into SS27 Desire

There is something quietly radical about patience in fashion. In a culture accustomed to immediacy, AGL chooses to linger over the gesture: the pull of thread through leather, the exact placement of a stitch, the shaping of a volume, the tactile pleasure of suede beneath the fingertips. For Spring/Summer 2027, the Italian footwear house gives that philosophy a name, “Anatomy of Patience,” and builds a collection around the idea that time itself can be an ingredient in beautiful design.

Founded in 1958 in Montegranaro, in Italy’s Marche region, AGL has remained a family story across three generations. Today, sisters Sara, Vera and Marianna Giusti lead the house, carrying forward a footwear heritage rooted in Italian manufacturing while continually refining its contemporary identity. The Spring/Summer 2027 collection returns to those foundations with particular intimacy, placing the people, techniques and materials behind the finished shoe at the center of the narrative.

Here, Made in Italy is expressed through process. “Anatomy of Patience” considers the hours behind an object and the accumulated knowledge required to make something appear effortless. AGL turns its attention to the skilled women whose hands help shape its shoes every day, treating needle, thread, cutting, weaving and finishing as part of the collection’s visual vocabulary.

That human touch becomes especially vivid in the season’s decorative language. Washed-suede flowers bloom across sandals and mules with deliberately dimensional petals, while a semi-spherical ornament assembled from safety pins recalls a seamstress’s pincushion. The reference is charming at first glance and more meaningful on closer inspection: an everyday implement from the workroom has been elevated into ornament, allowing the act of making to remain visible in the finished design.

One of the collection’s most expressive versions places a vivid red suede flower beside the metallic safety-pin detail on an open-toe beige leather mule, finished with a lacquered red 5-centimeter heel. Elsewhere, a pink suede flat sandal lets an exuberant flower become the focal point against a slender silhouette and natural rubber sole.

Weaving supplies another recurring expression of handcraft. A black leather sandal is constructed with intricate woven work around the foot, extending into fine leather ties that wind upward around the ankle and calf. Its squared toe and slender 7-centimeter lacquered heel introduce a precise geometric counterpoint to the pliancy of the leather. The effect captures one of the collection’s central tensions: softness held within structure, delicacy articulated through decisive lines.

The dialogue between exposure and concealment continues in taller silhouettes. A dark brown calf-leather gladiator sandal rises toward the knee, its lacing passing through metal eyelets along a substantial leather shaft. A 7-centimeter wedge grounds the dramatic construction. At the other end of the chromatic spectrum, white leather becomes almost architectural in a strappy platform sandal, where broad bands form clean graphic intersections around the foot and ankle.

Then comes gold. AGL’s ultra-soft platinum-gold leather shoe arrives with the playful versatility of a design intended to change according to the wearer’s mood. A generous fabric bow softens its metallic surface, while the construction allows the style to move between lace-up shoe and mule. A natural rubber sole completes the design; the broader Spring/Summer 2027 story also emphasizes comfort through details including memory-foam insoles.

The season grows more dramatic as the silhouette travels upward. An over-the-knee black leather boot is broken into sculptural cutout bands, allowing glimpses of the leg to punctuate its imposing height. A 10-centimeter block heel gives the design its architectural finish. The result feels deliberately substantial while preserving the collection’s fascination with space, movement and the relationship between leather and the body.

Material is essential to the entire proposition. Velvety suedes and full-grain calfskins are selected for their tactile qualities as much as their visual effect. Rather than treating leather as a neutral foundation for embellishment, AGL allows its grain, softness and natural structure to participate in the design. The approach speaks directly to the company’s longstanding Made in Italy identity and to a history that began in the Marche footwear district nearly seven decades ago.

Color brings another layer of character. Chalk white and black establish the collection’s graphic foundation, earthy browns introduce warmth, and periwinkle and magenta provide more unexpected flashes of color. Metallic gold brings luminosity, while strategic bursts of red sharpen otherwise neutral compositions. The palette can move from restrained to exuberant without losing the clarity of the shoes themselves.

The range of soles and heels is equally varied. Natural rubber flats sit alongside kitten heels, lacquered heels, block heels, wedges and flatforms, giving the Spring/Summer 2027 collection different attitudes and elevations while maintaining its focus on wearability. Comfort remains part of AGL’s vocabulary rather than an afterthought to it, an idea consistent with the house’s longstanding attention to how a shoe feels once it leaves the display and meets the foot.

The Giusti sisters’ role gives the collection another dimension. Sara, Vera and Marianna represent the third generation of the family business, which has been making footwear since 1958. Their stewardship connects the contemporary collection with decades of shoemaking knowledge accumulated in Montegranaro. In “Anatomy of Patience,” that inheritance is treated less as nostalgia than as a working resource: skills learned over generations continue to inform objects designed for the present.

That distinction matters. Craftsmanship here is alive in the flower that retains the character of hand manipulation, in woven leather that reveals the rhythm of its construction, in a safety pin transformed from practical tool to jewel-like detail, and in proportions refined until an ambitious shoe can still feel considered on the foot.

Even the collection’s most assertive pieces preserve that sense of control. A towering black boot, a brilliant white platform, a calf-wrapping gladiator and a metallic gold lace-up each occupy very different aesthetic territory, yet the same fascination with touch, construction and balance runs through them.

Perhaps this is where “Anatomy of Patience” finds its most compelling meaning. Patience becomes visible. It lives in surfaces, joins, knots, petals and carefully calculated heights. It is present in the distance between an initial sketch and the finished shoe, and in the skilled hands required to travel between the two. For Spring/Summer 2027, AGL makes time feel luxurious again.
