UPDATED TRAFFIC MEASURES DUE TO HIGH WATER

Updated traffic measures due to high water
Tuesday, April 19, 2016, Houston TX, USA
Due to record rainfall, current velocities of 3KT in the Upper Houston Ship Channel and connecting waterways have been observed. Vessel Traffic Service Houston Galveston directs the following traffic measures from Houston Ship Channel Light 124 to 133 and to include the I-10 Bridge in San Jacinto River:

  1. the I-10 Bridge in the San Jacinto River is established as a temporary traffic reporting point;
  2. vessels with loaded barges in the prescribed areas will be required to utilize an assist boat;
  3. all vessels moving barges loaded or empty shall take due precaution to have sufficient horsepower for the high current situation.

Traffic Measures will be UPDATED as required for the prevailing weather, tide, and current velocity.

It should be noted that PREDICTED cresting on the Buffalo Bayou at 1600 on 18 April; Greens Bayou at 1900 on 18 April; San Jacinto River at 1600 on 21 April.

Strike action at Patrick Terminals

At 07.00 hours local time today (19 April), employees at the Brisbane Autostrad Terminal began a 48-hour strike. This follows recent negotiations between Patrick Terminals and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) about a new Enterprise Agreement.Below are details of the MUA’s notified stoppages:BRISBANE AUTOSTRAD TERMINAL:
48-hour strike, from 07.00 hours on Tue April 19 to 07.00 hours on Thu April 21

EAST SWANSON DOCK TERMINAL:
48-hour strike, from 07.00 hours on Thu April 21 to 07.00 hours on Sat April 23.

In response, Patrick Terminals has offered its employees the opportunity to vote directly on the company’s proposed Enterprise Agreement. The Employee Vote will run from May 4 to May 9, and will be run by Elections Australia Pty Ltd.

Possible strike at locks

The German workers’ union ver.di has called a possible strike at Brunsbuettel locks this Thursday,  21 April 2016.At this stage, it is not yet known if this strike will affect the Kiel Canal operations.(For information about operations in Germany, contact the GAC UK Hub Agency Centre at hub.gb@gac.com)
