Communication with unknown entities

Hodeidah Port has issued a reminder to vessels to refrain from communicating with unknown entities whilst entering or at berth in the port.According to Circular No.926 issued on 30 October, this practice can result in the passing on of sensitive security and intelligence information, jeopardising the port and damaging public interests.

Those who do not abide by port regulations and refrain from these practices will be subject to legal punishment.

Recognition of vessels with high environmental efficiency rating

The Panama Canal Authority, in its ongoing commitment to protect the environment, has implemented the Green Connection Environmental Recognition Program to help the shipping industry mitigate the environmental impact of their operations. This initiative recognizes customers who demonstrate excellent environmental stewardship, and encourages others to also implement technologies and standards to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.The Program promotes the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by distinguishing vessels that comply with the highest environmental performance standards…

…The Green Connection Award recognizes transiting vessel with a good environmental performance that comply with the following:
– Indicator: Environmental Ship Index (ESI)
– Level: At least 35 points
– Docuemtnation: IMO number – ESI

The Environmental Premium Ranking awards customers with percentage points in the ‘number of transits’ portion of the Customer Ranking system to vessels that meet or exceed the specified requirement…  …Vessels that fall within Level 1 will receive a 20% bonus for each transit when tallying a particular customer’s number of transits for purposes of determining its ranking. Vessels that fall within Level 2 will receive a 20% bonus for each transit. In order to receive this benefit, vessels must meet at least one of the following requirements:

LEVEL 1
– EEDI threshold: at least 20% below the reference line (Documentation: International Energy Efficiency Certificate)
– ESI threshold: at least 35 points (Documentation: ESI database)
– Low NOx threshold: at least 10% below Tier II limit (Documentation: Engine International Air Pollution Prevention (EIAPP) Certificate)
– LNG fueled engine: N/A

LEVEL 2
– EEDI threshold: at least 30% below the reference line (Documentation: International Energy Efficiency Certificate)
– ESI threshold: at least 80 points (Documentation: ESI database)
– Low NOx threshold: at least 20% below Tier II limit (Documentation: Engine International Air Pollution Prevention (EIAPP) Certificate)
– LNG fueled engine: LNG fueled engine (Documentation: LNG engine description)

The application of the bonus percentage will become effective for transits beginning January 1, 2017. Partaking in the recognition program is optional. All interested vessels must request participation and deliver documentation to greenconnection@pancanal.com at least 96 hours prior to the vessel’s arrival at Canal waters…

Planned protest march unlikely to affect port operations

Several thousand protestors are expected to take part in a demonstration in Jakarta this Friday, 4 November, which could extend over the weekend. After Friday prayers, demonstrators will gather at the Great Istiqlal Mosque to march to the Presidential Palace.It is estimated that the event could escalate and cause disruption in the wider area including the National Monument (Monas), the area around the Presidential Palace and Governorate of Jakarta, the Harmoni area (behind the presidential palace), Great Istiqlal Mosque and its surroundings.

Operations at the port, however, are not expected to be affected as the march will take place in a different part of the city.
